Profile Basheer Jones - Basheer Jones, born in Brooklyn, New York and a graduate from Martin Luther King High School in Cleveland, Ohio is now a Graduating Senior at Morehouse College. In addition to maintaining a 3.0 grade point average, Basheer is involved in many school organizations, including the host of Jazzmans Café Search 4 DaTruuf Poetry Night (Every Thursday Night 8pm-12am at Morehouse College) Basheer is a member of the Illyterati Poetry Club, committee member of Spiritual Affairs for the Student Government Association, and Public Relations Director for Muslim Student Association.

After classes Basheer teaches history at Westend Educational Center, which is a community school and he coaches a basketball team for fifth thru seventh graders at an area school. Basheer is apart of a community program called B.R.I.C.K (Brotherhood, Respect, Intelligence, Conduct, and Knowledge). The program activities consist of reading to pre-schoolers, feeding the homeless, and other civic activities. Basheer Jones is a published author of poetry that has been writing since the age of 11. He travels internationally speaking and reciting his poetry at schools, conventions, weddings, religious functions, including performances at the renowned Apollo Theatre. His poetry has won countless first place competitions, including the acclaimed Youth Pepsi Essence Award in 1999, and he has been featured in the Essence Magazine. The Cleveland Call and Post and Plain Dealer Newspapers, and on several radio stations around the country. Basheer has won poetry slams around the country and has opened up for Def Poetry Jam at Emory University located in Atlanta, GA.

Basheer just released his second CD entitled, Ill Speak 4 Change, and his first book of poetry entitled, The World is My House. To name a few of his many awards and achievements, Basheer has been saluted as one of Cleveland State Universitys Great African American Men and Cleveland Life Magazines Twenty-Five leaders of Tomorrow. Basheer is the C.E.O of S.O.A.R inc. (Seeds of a Revolution, which is a non-profit organization that will host events, and conventions that will inspire people to uplift self, family, and community. Basheer currently attends Howard University, majoring in Education Administration and Policy. He plans to continue inspiring the masses through his gift of poetry.
